The Metal Flap Tail

 

The defining feature of this bait is its metal flap tail. Working in unison with the lure's left-to-right dog-walk action, the tail kicks the surface film, flipping seductively and agitating the water to deliver a unique slapping presentation.

Operation & Impact

The lure operates much like a traditional pencil bait. Thanks to the ultra-high buoyancy of the natural balsa material, working the rod with line slack allows anyone to easily execute jumping (head-banging), dog-walking, quick table turns, and dive-and-slide actions—movements that are virtually impossible with standard full-sized plastic pencils.

 

The unique water displacement of the prop-form head and its quick roll rotation draw explosive strikes not only from active fish in the shallows but also from suspended fish holding deeper in the water column.

When you lower your rod tip near the water and execute a sharp jerk, the 3/4oz SCREAM-X instantly darts. Apply strong, continuous twitches, and the bait will dog-walk and table-turn while violently reversing its body left and right.

 

During this aggressive dog-walk, it emits a fierce, screaming acoustic rip. This precise movement visually and acoustically mimics the frantic splashing and kicking behavior of a large, dying baitfish.

The Secret to Operation: Stealth Retrieval

The key to mastering the SCREAM-X is keeping the rod tip near the water surface during the strike zone. Megabass specifically engineered the SCREAM-X so that the propellers do not rotate if you raise the rod tip and retrieve the lure when it is close to you. ​

Traditional swishers often ruin a spot because, even after missing a strike, the propellers continue to churn loudly across the surface during the entire retrieve, unnecessarily spooking the entire area.
