The Optical Science of Megabass Lure Design
Megabass color codes function as optical specifications: a two-letter prefix tells you the refractive behavior of the finish before it tells you anything about hue. Yuki Ito's design language treats a lure as an object that must survive inspection. Realism in that framework is not an accurate paint job of a shad — it is the correct handling of light transmission, so a bait looks like a living thing when a bass is looking at it from below, sideways, and in motion.
